designed a game as a communication strategy that engages the customer at the cafe and increases their stay time while educating them about the people who grow the coffee they drink. The brief was to propose interventions to further Araku’s essence and empower the community through a participatory and primary in-person approach.

Araku is a premium coffee retail brand that was started by the Naandi foundation in 2014. They sell sustainable, high-quality produce of arabica coffee through their gourmet cafes and website. This coffee is cultivated by tribes in araku region of Andhra Pradesh.

Trust and Transparency,
Its core value
The companies vision and mission mention's trust and transparency as their core values, so it shows in the way they work with the farmers and the way they treat their customers at the cafe.

In a visit to araku for making a bio pit it was observed that their core team Vinod, Prakash, Sonalika, Venkat, and Sitaram shared a bond of trust and transparency with the farmers at all villages. Naandi’s team has worked with the tribals since 1998. It was observed that they were always aware of each and every farmer’s name.

There were instances where they were found enquiring or knowing about the health conditions of the families of the farmers. The farmers always seemed very enthusiastic and motivated about meeting or working with Nandi’s team.

An engaging game that delivers araku’s essence not just as a noun but a verb

The game is set in the coffee plantation forests in the valley of araku . Three farmers are stuck in a forest. The sun is about to set. They face danger from bears, snakes, rocks, and poisonous creepers. The players are roleplaying the elements of nature -
air, water, and fire carry distinct powers to fight these dangers.

Air - can move towards east and west and has the power to push the snakes away.
Fire - moves towards the north and can burn down poisonous creepers and makes bears run away

Water - moves towards the south and cuts down all rocks.

The game is to be played collaboratively by all players who give farmers the direction to walk and help them tackle the obstacles to reach their compost baskets and then back to the village.

Are you ready to take them back to the village?
